Central California Flies Gallery
A very large group of insects that are distinguished from other insects by having only two wings from which their order name dipteria is derived. They also have two small balancing organs called halteres connected to their thorax one behind each wing. A few parasitic flies have no wings. Some flies are a nuisance and harmful but the majority are beneficial.
